How the dishwasher works

The mass production of dishwashers began relatively recently. Engineers have always tried to make the hard work of cooks easier. Washing dishes is considered the hardest job in the kitchen. After the first models of dishwashers were developed, all housewives were thrilled. Now these machines are commonplace in the kitchen.

How the dishwasher works

All dishwashers have a closed front panel. It is not possible to watch the dishwashing process. It is only possible to control the operation by the display indications. The light indicator shows which cycle is running at a given time. Standard procedures have the following sequence: filling with water, mixing with detergents, heating, dishwashing cycles, and drying.

During each operation, the dishwasher emits a characteristic sound that can be used as a guide.

Dishwasher construction

In the construction of the dishwasher, you can distinguish several main nodes. Let us briefly consider them.

– The main element in the construction of all models of dishwashers is the pump, powered by an electric motor. The pump provides the supply of water to the machine from the water supply line, as well as carries out its circulation.

– Water is pumped into the working chamber through the beater.

– Dirty water formed during washing is cleaned by filters.

– An auxiliary pump pumps the dirty water into the drain.

– Electric heating elements are designed to heat water and come in different types.

– To place the dirty dishes special baskets are designed, which are placed in the working chamber.

How to operate the dishwasher

In the processor of the dishwasher are laid all the programs that provide the necessary sequence of turning on the nodes of the unit. The selection of the desired program is made according to the instruction manual. After selecting the appropriate program, the dishwasher is started by pressing the “start” button. Before starting, make sure that it is connected to the water supply and that there is water in it. Do not forget to plug the machine into the socket.

All further operations take place automatically.

Rules of operation

Even if the dishwasher is designed with a hot water supply, you should still not connect it to the hot water supply. Firstly, the quality of hot water is lower than cold water, so the filters clog much faster. Secondly, the components used for hot water fail faster than those used for cold water. Therefore, you will have to change hot water hoses much more often.

When using the dishwasher, you can save energy. To do this, you wait until the washing procedure is completed and turn off the machine. After opening the door, wait for the dishes to dry naturally. In this way, it is possible to achieve significant savings without turning on the electric heating elements during drying. This operation should be carried out if there is no need to finish the washing as quickly as possible.

Dishwasher sequence

The dishwasher washing technology is almost no different from handwashing and has several cycles:

  1. The dishes are washed with a mixture of water and detergents.
  2. The washed dishes are rinsed.
  3. Drying.

Why do you need to soak dirty dishes?

Obviously, it is virtually impossible to wash very dirty dishes quickly. Especially if the dirt has had time to dry, sticking to the surface of the cutlery. To wash dishes with burnt residues of food, you also need to make an effort. In these cases, the machine has a soaking mode.  The water is fed in small portions with a splashing for a long time. This allows the dirt to dry out.

How the washing process works

The following happens during normal dishwashing.

The incoming water is mixed with detergents and other reagents. Then the water is heated to a predetermined temperature by electric heating elements. This is followed by the first rinse cycle, during which pressurized water washes away dirt and food debris through the beakers. At the same time, the dirty water circulating through the system passes through the coarse filter. After the filter, the dishes are rinsed a second time with the same water. This time the dirty water is discharged into the sewage system. A second portion of clean water is rinsed for the third time. The water is again drained into the sewer, and the dishes are dried with the air jet.

Rinsing and drying cycles

The main process – rinsing – takes place under the pressure of water from the rocker arms which are rotating in this process. Water is pressurized into the beakers.

There are usually three types of drying in the machines: condensation drying, intensive drying, and turbo drying. Turbo drying is performed with heated air, unlike the first two types, where the air is not heated intentionally.

Features of dishwasher operation

How long does the dishwashing procedure take?

A complete wash cycle takes anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. If you compare the time it takes a person to wash dishes with the speed of a dishwasher, then the comparison will not be in favor of the dishwasher unit. But after all, the use of a dishwasher is not intended to overtake humans in dishwashing. The beauty is that the hostess can do other things in the meantime.

How to determine how busy you are

Each dishwasher model is designed for a certain amount of dirty dishes. In order not to overload the machine, then before the operation, you should carefully study the enclosed instructions, prepared by the manufacturers, and follow them.  If the machine works with overloading, it will immediately have a negative impact on the cleanliness of washed dishes.

Dishwasher malfunctions

The most common are just two dishwasher malfunctions: either the water does not heat up, or it does not drain. In the case of a malfunction, you should contact a service shop. It is unlikely to be possible to fix the breakdown on your own.
