Maintenance Dos and Don’ts for your Viking stove:

Do

  • Wipe down your stovetop after every use.
  • Wait until the burners and stove surface have completely cooled down before you go to clean them.
  • Take the burners apart from the stove and soak in warm, soapy water to clean thoroughly.
Stubborn cooked-on spills or stains can be cleaned with a mild paste. You can make this from 2 simple ingredients: baking soda and water.
  • Wash all parts in clean water. Then, dry all parts thoroughly before replacing them.
  • Remove any food pieces stick under or on the burners and on the surface of the cooktop.
  • Replace the burners correctly. There is a small hole in each of the burner base pieces where the flame shoots out and connects with the burner – if the hole isn’t matched with the corresponding opening in the burner the flame won’t ignite.
  • Check for gas leaks if you have a gas stove. If you smell gas – immediately turn off the stove and open a window.
  • If you are cleaning a gas stove, turn off the gas taps.
  • Depending on the frequency of cooking, clean your filters every few months to prevent major build up.

Don’t

  • Pour water over the cooktop! Excess water can prevent ignition and you will not be able to use your appliance anymore.
  • Use a toothpick to clean the burner holes in case the wood snaps in the holes. Brushing gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush can also help to dislodge food particles and grease.
  • Spray cleaning liquid directly onto the control panel. Instead, spray some on a damp cloth and then wipe the surface. Don’t use abrasive pads or harsh cleaning products on the knobs or the text/indicators can be worn off. Many knobs can be removed from the base of the stove and cleaned in warm soapy water.

By following proper cleaning techniques, you will avoid the risk of burning out any working parts on your stove.
