What error code and what steps can I take in my specific situation?
Code group #1 – Trouble with water intake/drainage
E3 stops the machine when it fails to get water into the chamber within a certain set program within the allotted time period. The latest Bosch models in such a situation first have the self-draining of the working liquid and then the alphanumeric code of the malfunction appears on the screen.
In products without display, produced 7-10 years ago, the process is reversed. If the Bosch dishwasher display shows the “Faucet” error, the problem is solved first, and then the container is filled with liquid.
To solve the issue, you need to check the presence of water in the central supply system. If this is okay, it is worth paying attention to the filters located at the inlet to the dishwasher just before the fill hose and establishing the correct functioning of the valve and the water level sensor. In the end, you can look at how the pump is functioning, because sometimes it is the pump that causes the error code E3 to appear on the screen.
E5 gives a clear signal that the unit’s tank is full of water. This happens when the water level sensor fails and cannot stop the filling process at the right moment. To eliminate the problem it is necessary to carefully inspect the sensor and find out whether its tube is not clogged with dirt and remains of food, not melted working contacts, and not burned-out wiring.
If all is well with these units, it is worth dealing with the fill valve. It is possible that for some reason it can not close completely and prevent water from getting into the tank.
E8 is in many ways similar to error E3 and appears in exactly the same way – the dishwasher is not getting the necessary amount of water into the sump. Because of this, the circulating pump can not start correctly, and the heating element loses the ability to join the work. The search for the cause of the malfunction is carried out according to the principle described for the E3 code.
E16 indicates the failure of the technique to shut off the liquid in the washer tank. Water is poured into the machine uncontrollably, contrary to the set mode. Usually, this situation is provoked by debris in the inlet valve. Large particles do not allow the baffle to close tightly, and water continues to seep in even when the machine is not running.
To fix the problem, you need to carefully inspect the intake valve, remove large particles of dirt and clean the surrounding area. Then you need to check the water level sensor and find out if there is excess foam from the detergent in the tank.
E17 indicates that the dishwasher is not filling properly. This type of error is among the rarer and narrower types of errors. Usually, it is caused by the inlet valve, which closes the water with great force or is unable to close at all due to excessive liquid pressure. Then it is necessary to partially shut off the water on the riser pipes, thus lowering the total pressure in the system.
Sometimes the appearance of code E17 provokes not mechanical problems, but failures of a completely different nature, such as water hammer.
If the malfunction is not detected, it is appropriate to check the sensor that measures the amount of water supplied to the tank. Perhaps the problem lies in it, and this element is the cause of the E17 code on the screen.
E21 draws the user’s attention to the fact that the pump of the machine stops working correctly, preventing the unit from draining water in a timely manner. There is a situation when the power to the pump comes in full, the interaction with the control unit and sensors is in normal mode, but the drain is not carried out and the water remains in the tank.
In looking for the problem, it is worth checking the impeller. It may have stopped rotating because some foreign elements wrapped around the base or blades and jammed the proper movement. Or the rotor is stuck to the walls of the hub and needs to be well-cleaned and lubricated. Sometimes this is indicated by a change in the error code value from E21 to E22.
But more often the problem is in the operating wear of the pump mechanism, which interferes with the pumping/extracting of working water. The solution is elementary – you need to remove the old pump and replace it with a new one.
Code Group #2 – Electrical Problems
The electrical system of modern Bosch units consists of a large number of all sorts of sensors and connecting parts. One blown terminal or frayed short wire creates a lot of difficulties and makes the screen light up with different error codes.
E01 and E30 indicate a malfunction in the electrical or electronic system. The easiest solution is to reset the unit through the activation button “on/off”. If the error indication disappears, it means that an elementary failure has occurred and the operation can continue as usual.
When the error codes continue to be repeatedly displayed, it is necessary to contact the service center and invite a qualified technician to the house. He will conduct diagnostics with the help of special devices, and identify and eliminate the detected problems.
E27 usually “pops up” in those machines which are connected to the electrics directly. The abbreviation appears on the screen after voltage fluctuations have occurred in the network. If the code becomes a frequent occurrence, it is worth buying a stabilizer and connecting the dishwasher through it, thus protecting the unit from possible short circuits.
Code Group #3 – Switch and Sensor Failures
Water sensors and switches help monitor the dishwasher’s operation and control the processes of various programs. When these parts break, the internal diagnostic system recognizes this and displays error codes describing the problems.
E4 reports that the control sensor, which is responsible for the pressure and flow of the water supplied to the sprinkler, is not fulfilling its function. The cause is a mechanical failure or blockage. Perhaps too hard-flowing water is clogging the nozzles and liquid is not flowing through them. Cleaning the nozzles or replacing the sensor usually solves the issue.
E6 draws attention to the water clarity sensor not working properly. Sometimes replacing the burned-out contacts helps fix the situation, but more often the element simply has to be replaced with a new one.
E14 signals the malfunction of the sensor, which is responsible for the amount of water flowing into the dishwasher tank. It is not advisable to change or repair it yourself. Have it done by an employee of the Bosch service center invited to your home,
Error code E15 in a Bosch dishwasher indicates that the built-in system “Aquastop” fails, and the sensor detects a leak. In this case, you need to examine the unit’s tray, hoses, and adjacent elements to find the problem area. When it is found, the problem will only have to be repaired by replacing or repairing the failed part.
