A dishwasher, like a refrigerator, washing machine, or other appliance, is not usually bought for a year or two, but for at least the next decade. That’s why it’s important to look at just a few that will fit into your budget, not just any randomly chosen model. Really?
Size and type of installation
The choice of space for the machine and its type of installation are interrelated, as all dishwashers are divided into:
– freestanding models;
– built-in appliances;
– partly built-in machines.
Freestanding units are not tied to the furniture, they can be installed freestanding – they are independent appliances, with a decorative finish on all sides. Built-in appliances have no external wall decoration, and the front panel is designed for mounting a front screen.
Depending on the type of installation, the machines can be full-sized, i.e. as wide as possible, narrower, narrower in width, or compact.
If space is at a premium and the machine needs to be disguised, a built-in compact model is a right choice. For larger kitchens, a number of options are available, but free-standing models are less popular.
A large number of appliances are often hidden behind fronts, so they don’t clutter up your kitchen. Because manufacturers are demand-driven, built-in appliances are easier to find.
Which accessories are the most important?
The modern models work thanks to inverter motors with frequency converters. Thanks to this special device, the speed and speed can be adjusted more precisely.
The first models were equipped with brush collectors which were noisy, quickly worn out, and consumed a lot of energy. The main components were the filter system, the pump, the pressurizer, the leakage protection, the water softener, the condenser, and the heater.
However, these parts are hidden from the user. Some parts of the dishwasher are directly accessible so that regular cleaning is possible.
Before choosing a machine, make sure that the baskets or bins are comfortable to use and that the internal parts are easy to care for. Ask whether the boxes can be rearranged, the inclination can be changed or additional holders can be used. When you have a lot of dishes, the number, shape, and size of the compartments are important.
Main and additional functions
The basic functions – washing and drying – are inherent to all dishwashers without exception. These stages can differ in principle. They include soaking for greasy or smoky pans or an additional rinse for clear glass, with varying degrees of hot water and different durations.
The drying process differs in type:
condensation drying – natural drying through cooling;
Convection type – turbo, caused by the circulating hot air;
Zeolitic – drying by the action of heated mineral air;
intelligent Sensor Dry – analyzing the temperature in the room and blowing it off.
There is no fundamental difference when choosing the type of drying, especially if the activation of the washing cycle is planned for the night period – the dishes are dried in any case by breakfast.
Additional functions for different brands can differ, as from time to time companies introduce new, more technologically advanced, and economical developments.
The half-load mode does not ‘work’ on all models, but can be useful for small families or single people. It speeds up the washing process, reducing energy and water consumption.
The AquaStop system prevents leaks inside the cabinet and in the hoses. If a malfunction occurs in the program or one of the machine’s parts fails, the machine stops. The used water is discharged into a drain and the inflow of new water is blocked.
If your machine is not equipped with an AquaStop, you can purchase a hose that operates according to the same principle. Easy-lock is a forced closing function for the door. The appliance will not start if the door is not shut and has a latch that automatically pulls the door shut.
Dual Wash gives you the option of washing mixed dishes in a single load. Pots and pans and delicate glasses are cleaned at the same time, but with the only condition – they are loaded in different compartments. The dirtiest dishes are placed in the bottom tier, and glasses and cups for rinsing are in the top tier.
OrtoSensor is a very useful function that detects the hardness of the water. If the sensors report a risk of limescale, the amount of salt in the wash water is increased.
Rackmatic – the possibility of adjusting the extension and height of the upper basket to better position items.
To find out about the functions of a particular machine, it is necessary to carefully study the technical documentation. Modern machines have many more useful options, but it is better to choose those that are required for daily washing.
